BEHIND THE DESIGN
“This shoe is a game changer,” says running champion Shalane Flanagan. Built around the same innovations as the Breaking2 runners’ shoes is the Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4%—the fastest marathon shoe Nike has ever sold. In lab tests, it measured roughly 4% better for running economy than Nike’s latest and fastest marathon racer, the Zoom Streak 6. But those are just numbers.
“I’ve been known to have ‘diva’ feet,” Flanagan says, “but when I first tried the Zoom Vaporfly 4%, it was love at first run.” The shoe is a state-of-the-art statement of pure speed. Its ultra-responsive cushioning creates a feeling like you’re being pushed toward the finish line. Afterall, it was built to move running forward. Including your own running.
Vaporfly 4% PROS
First releases shoe with ZoomX cushioning
ZoomX is a cross between plastic / rubber & 1/3 the weight of regular midsoles
Full Length Carbon Fiber plate, can definitely feel it (show you cant bend backwards)
Flymesh Upper w aero dynamic shape
Fit? True To Size
Vaporfly 4% CONS
Price, $250 is rough. Best option? Zoom Fly
Confusing technology name “ZoomX” has no zoom. What should they have called it??
Suction Cup heel strike on some surfaces
Very Unstable feeling when not laced (feels like my feet roll inwards
Widows peak on heel gets dirty, hard to drive in.
How can I describe the closest comparison?
Like Zoom Fly, but 2x softer & more responsive
Like 93/17 massive cushioning, similar to Hoka Runner too, but much, much lighter!
Better than Boost?
Lighter, softer, but will it be more or equal in durability?
Most responsive shoe I have ever worn. The heel cup issue is very frustrating however, but a great sneaker all around.
