New Balance 998 “Charcoal”

As we enter 2014 expect to see some of the smaller brands compared to Nike, Jordan, Adidas, etc. try to make big gains this year with more innovation, new colorways and models, as well as dope collaborations. The year 2013 was marked by an intense shift of hype towards brands such as New Balance, Asics, Onitsuka Tiger, Saucony, etc. The main cause of this sudden spread was mainly due to emerging designs fabricated by celebrities, fashion companies, boutiques, etc. These different groups joined up with well established brands and “collaborated” their collective creativity to come up with designs and colorways that made sneaker heads bend over backwards. Designers such as Ronnie Fieg and shops like Boston’s Concepts collaborated with numerous brands including Nike, Asics, New Balance, etc. These designers used classic silhouettes to make many sneaker companies’ models very desirable.

Among these models include New Balance’s 998. Concepts collaborated with New Balance during 2013 and created the “C-Note” and “Mint” colorways/designs of the 998. Aside from these, there were numerous other significant sneaker releases from not only New Balance that created quite a stir in 2013.

However, these companies’ classic models aren’t limited to only collaborations; they tend to release many clean and creative colorways as well.

This latest New Balance 998 release implements the same classic design while implementing a sleek look. The shoe utilizes a variety of materials including mesh, suede, plastics/rubbers, as well as synthetic accents. The shoe is mainly a charcoal grey color with silver and white found throughout the shoe that come together to make quite a clean look, perfect for the winter.

Who can go wrong? New Balance’s moderate pricing, quality stemming from their commitment to “Made in the USA”, comfort, etc. prove that many of New Balance’s models such as the 998 are perfect choices for everyday usage.
