Tinker Hatfield: A Video Every Sneakerhead Should See – Air Max 1 Story
Many know the name “Tinker Hatfield” as being the famous Jordan Brand designer, from the Jordan 3, to the Jordan 11. Tinker Hatfield is also the innovating factor behind the Nike Air Max 1, the first Nike Shoe with a exposed, visible air bubble.
This sneaker was designed from inspiration of the “Georges Pompidou” center in Paris France. He said his “architectural senses were turned upsidedown” from the thought of this building, it stood out so much from the traditional architecture in France.
In 1987 The Air Max 1 was the first Nike shoe to have an exposed “visible airbag” and Tinker suggested that if he didnt see this building, then this may not have occurred. The visible air bag in my mind, changed the game of sneakers and the face of Nike. “A Revolution in motion”, “The run. Redefined” were some of the original slogans.
Tinker went against the head of marketing creating this shoe since it was so “out of the box”. Tinker wanted to push the envelope without being fired.
