1-Designed By Tinker Hatfield in 1987– came bundled, he did the Air Trainer 1 and Air Safari. He also Designed the Air Jordan 3-15

Inspired by the Le Centres George Pompidou
The center, famous for its “inside out” design is what Hatfield had in mind when taking the Air Max cushioning from hidden beneath the foam of the midsole, to being a part of the visual aesthetics of the shoe’s design.

3-First Sneaker with Nike Air
Released March 26th 1987,
First Sneaker ever with a visible air unit, Also Nike “Air” almost didn’t happen, was shopped around to other brands before Nike, phil saw the potential. Marion Frank Rudy patented this, Nike bought the trademark.
First Sneaker with “Air” was actually the Air Tailwind in 1978

4-It’s not actually “air” it was Sulfur hexafluoride, recently changed to Hydrogen. Nike Air is really “pressurized gas encapsulated in polyurethane”

5-Variations
Originally released in Suede and Mesh, leather versions released in 1988 First Retro was in 1992
Through the years, different variations have occurred, Mini swoosh in 1997, Jewel Swoosh (like the Air Force 1 in 1996) Midsole / outsole upgrades in 1992 to prevent crumbling. 1st Collaboration was Safari Atmos in 2002

Fun Fact, the Air Max 90 was known as the Air Max 3 originally. Air Max 2? Aka Air Max Light, why didn’t the branding stick?
