Sneaker Freaker, a longtime print and online sneaker publication, has joined forces with New Balance to create another wild sneaker collaboration, but on a slightly modified version of the 997.
The 997.5 is a fusion of the 997 upper with the midsole and outsole tooling of the 998, combining two of the most popular New Balance models to date. The 997.5 features a terracota suede which is contrasted by black suede panels, a black suede tongue, black and white midsole speckling, and apricot hits on the midsole and and apricot “teeth” towards the forefoot of the midsole. Every pair will come with a limited edition of the Sneaker Freaker magazine, with the sneakers on the front cover, as well as both general release and Friends and Family packaging.
The inspiration for the sneaker comes from an extinct Australian marsupial, with the last living Tassie Tiger dying in captivity at the Hobart Zoo in the 1930s. This sneaker falls in line with the inspiration of the “Tassie Devil” New Balance 998 three years ago.
The Friends and Family edition will release in Melbourne, Australia, at 15 McKillop Street, from 6PM on July 15. An online release will happen on July 16th at 9AM. A wider, global release will happen the week after, on July 23rd.
