This Saturday, Boston-based boutique Bodega and Asics come together to retro a new silhouette that has not seen the light of day since its original release more than 20 years ago. Meet the Gel-Classic, the newest iteration to Asics deep list of Gel inspired retro runners.
After the success of 2015’s gore-tex ‘Get Wet’ collaboration, the two forces collaborate once again to spur a an active-inspired sneaker. Dubbed the ‘On the Road’, this sneaker sports pastel colors that represent the earthy tones of traveling… well, on the road.
Light rose, brown, beige, mint, and off-white don the new silhouette inspired by the concept that “every step is a possibility”. The pastel flavor to the shoe is something much toned down from the typical Bodega collaboration, and I believe this is a great way to kick off the new year.
Personally, these shoes will be chased after by myself this Saturday, January 9. The shoes will be available on Bodega’s website (shop.bdgastore.com) at 11AM EST, as well the storefront in Boston at the same time. Additionally, the shoes come in custom packaging as well as a polaroid camera further indulging into the theme. They retail for $130, which is a breath of fresh air to the culture that has been bogged down by increasingly outrageous price tags (think Jordan) and an oversupply of collaborations, however, Bodega combats both of these problems by doing something different with such an opportunity, truly proving that “every step is a possibility”.
